Lakeport plantation was a commissioned piece. The owner wanted a depiction of it in its "more glorious days" which were between the 1860's and 1880's It survived the civil war and is the only plantation in Arkansas still standing on the Mississippi River. Sylvia spent over 2 years researching the house and looking for an old photo or painting of it. It took her a year to paint its intricate detail. Since then, the University of Arkansas has acquired the house, and it will be refurbished as a historic and educational site. You can read about Lakeport on www.arconnection.com, click on Lakeport.
